A day trip to Laguna Beach: Sun, sand, and stunning views

If you ever find yourself in Southern California, Laguna Beach is a must-see. The popular coastal town is known for its jaw-dropping views, colorful art galleries, and incredible beach vibes.

I decided to make the most of a sunny day with a solo trip to Laguna Beach to get some much-needed movement, fresh air, and of course, amazing views.

Heisler Park: A beach run with a sunset view

My day started with a run at Heisler Park, which is hands down one of the best places to take in Laguna Beach’s natural beauty especially if you like palm trees and panoramic ocean views. This park sits right along the coastline and is lined with walking paths which you can run on.

What made it unforgettable was when I reached the perfect spot at the park for a stop: a gorgeous staircase leading down to the beach. It took me time to find it but if you’re facing the ocean it’s on the left side of the park. The stairs cut through the bluff, guiding me to a secluded sandy cove below. The colors of the sky started shifting, and being there at sunset was serene.

There’s something magical about a beach run that connects your mind, body, and the rhythm of the ocean. I couldn’t help but pause for a moment, letting the sound of the waves wash over me.

Victoria Beach: A fairytale castle on the coast

After my run, I headed down to Victoria Beach to explore the iconic castle, a secret piece of Laguna Beach history nestled along the coast. Known for its stunning castle-like structure, this tower is a beloved photo op for visitors, and I couldn’t resist getting up close to it. You have to get to the beach and walk over the rocks on the right to find it.

The tower, built in the 1920s as a private stairway to the beach for a local estate, has become a symbol of Laguna Beach’s charm and mystery. Standing there, with the waves crashing at my feet and the sun beginning to set, I felt like I was in a fairytale. According to a local and my experience, it’s best to go in the morning or afternoon, as right before sunset, the tide tends to rise.

I took some time to sit on the rocks, watching the surf and reflecting on how perfect it was to find such an unexpected treasure so close to the water. It was a reminder to always seek out new places, even when they’re just a short drive away.

After parking in the neighborhood above this was the view on the stairway to Victoria Beach.

Reflection: Laguna Beach, a place to recharge

As the sun dipped below the horizon, I couldn’t help but feel grateful for the time spent in Laguna Beach that day. It was a reminder that sometimes, all it takes is a day trip to reset, recharge, and remind yourself of the beauty that exists in the world around us.

Laguna Beach holds a special kind of energy. It’s where you can escape the hustle, breathe in the salty air, and let the ocean work its magic. Whether you’re running along the cliffs, soaking in the sunset, or exploring hidden gems like the castle, Laguna Beach is a perfect place to reconnect with nature, yourself, and the life you’re building.

If you’re ever in the area, take the time to slow down and soak it all in. Because in Laguna Beach, every moment feels like a treasure waiting to be discovered.
